Totem Static Account

Hello friends, as of yesterday, I got a different job. Steel construction signs with a height of around 10-15 m, which we constantly see on the side of the road, are referred to as totem signs. I have a lack of information because such a job has not come before, and I realized that the profile sizes I intend to use are not in IdeCAD 8, I am waiting for your help in this regard. Thanks everyone for the good work.

Hello Mr. Ahmet; If the profiles you intend to use are not available in the library, you can add sections from the structure tree section. To add sections, right click on the building tree-sections and select add new section. There are two separate sections, single and compound, and submenus in these sections, you can define the sections you want with the help of these menus. Good work.

Hello Nurgul; What kind of data should we do in the analysis systems of such structures? Wind load calculation ?, Building importance coefficient ?, etc. Since it will be my first job, what should be considered regarding design and analysis? Do you have any suggestions or resource recommendations on this subject?

Hello Mr. Ahmet, TS 498 or TS EN 1991-1-4:2005 and DBYBHY 2007 resources are sufficient for the subjects you have mentioned. When calculating the wind load, first of all, in TS 498 Table 5, totem signage max. q according to its height, by determining the wind suction pressure (if a part of the sign area falls below 8 meters, it will be safe for you to take the q value of 80kg/m² for the whole sign) and for the C coefficient, you should choose the value 1.6 by "accepting" option a of 2.1 item in Table 6 will be appropriate. However, since there is no special C coefficient explanation for this type of structures in TS 498, it would be healthier to calculate the wind with this standard, taking into account the specific explanations in the article 7.4.3 of TS EN 1991-1-4:2005 for the relevant coefficient. Taking the building importance coefficient as "1.0" from DBYBHY 2007 Table 2.3, and since the building is not a building type, for the structural system behavior coefficient R, Article 2.12 is given in Table 2.8 as "Inverted pendulum type structures whose mass is stacked on the top and carried by a single independent vertical carrier element". You can consider the value "2" given in the title. I wish you good work. Best regards, Tolga Aydoner
