Today, August 17, is the anniversary of the great earthquake we experienced.

First of all, I wish mercy to our citizens who lost their lives 18 years ago today. May Allah never show such suffering to our nation again. In this context, I hope that all my fellow engineers and architects, who are responsible for people's housing, will fulfill their responsibilities by asking, questioning, researching and in the light of science. We must not sacrifice this heavy responsibility for simple, everyday reasons. Of course, we will try to meet people's demands. But we never leave aside that we are not a notary public, but an engineer or an architect. It is our duty to combine aesthetics with common sense and science. Have you ever seen a doctor who went into different quests for the sake of aesthetics and changed his ears and nose? Or do you think that the doctor who has undergone appendicitis surgery can say that I should also intervene in the heart? And do you know a friend who will say, "Let's pay for it, let the stomach be on this side, not on this side" for use? We have to protect the ethical and scientific rules of our profession in order to respect ourselves and other people. We need to research more and improve ourselves more. My love and respect to all my friends. I wish you a professional life free from all kinds of worries and worries. Sent from my N. YILMAZ SM-N915F using Tapatalk

Re: Today is August 17, the anniversary of the great earthquake we experienced. Hello, Mr. Nedim, I totally agree. As a result, knowledge, information, knowledge, used correctly with a questioning mindset .... "Is there any one who knows and one who does not know?" As someone who has studied the Erzincan, Adapazarı and Dinar earthquakes on site, I say May Allah never show such destruction again. The precaution we will take; making the right project the right application. Good luck to all friends Unver ÖZCAN

Re: Today is August 17th, the anniversary of the great earthquake we experienced. While I was confused, I came across an article I wrote on this forum site on March 5, 2015 due to Earthquake Week. It will happen again, but due to the importance of this day, I would like to share it with your forgiveness.

We are having a quiet week of earthquakes. Of course we would like it to be quiet in terms of earthquakes. But for engineers it should not be so quiet I don't understand the insensitivity of non-governmental and professional organizations that take to the streets, line up on the streets, carry banners about irrelevant issues. Where is public awareness, where is the education of engineers? Programs do the calculation and drawing part of the job. They show simple section calculations at school, it's over. Well, since we became engineers, then why can't we design earthquake-resistant structures properly. Some people think that they guarantee themselves with excessively large sections, some force the minimum sections and lean on the program. Take risks. Some are unaware of the geometry, design, behavior trilogy. Is it just a celebration of disaster directorates during earthquake week? How can we save alive from under the rubble? are they bad? Or is it the rhetoric of IMO saying how many construction supervisors you have, you earned money from the construction site supervisor, why didn't you give it to us, is the earthquake week celebration. Or is it the earthquake week celebration that the chamber of architects, which sent a letter to all its members this week, scares its members by saying "if you don't pay, we will sue you". Or is it the week of earthquakes for those who rejoice that they have crossed a span of 10 m with a 30 cm beam? Or maybe it's the week of earthquakes for those who say "what is the need for iron, this building will pull 15 times with this iron". No, no, maybe not all that. Maybe municipalities; Is it the week of the earthquake that they think "yes, we have put an extra document in the file, now we have just connected the engineer". Or is it the fact that everyone is trying to spend the morning prayer in the mosque, despite the earthquake and turmoil, like the morning of August 17th? Is it the week of the earthquake that we leave our work to Allah by saying "If we die, let's die in the mosque"... With love and respect... N. YILMAZ

Re: Today is August 17, the anniversary of the great earthquake we experienced. Thank you Mr. Nedim for your sensitivity and wishes. I hope we never experience such a disaster again. Unfortunately, since our business is not on the visible side, carrier systems are often sacrificed to architectural concerns. I can see this situation even in some models that are shared in the forum to ask questions. There is a fact that as long as there are colleagues who make projects for 1 TL per square meter, the quality of the static project will not reach the level it should be. The static project is not even 3% of the total construction cost. There are projects where the cost of the total faucet to be installed in the building is even higher. With the urban transformation, 15-storey building projects are produced in 3 days, even if there are structural system defects in the architecture, they are modeled exactly and delivered incompletely without paying attention to the drawing details. We know that the errors that the software gives are fixed somehow, there is no need to deceive ourselves. Also, even if everything is sufficient, there aren't many engineers who go after a better design. Time and money are the worst enemies. It is very urgent and it is requested to produce a project for 5 money. Engineers, who start to produce static projects as soon as they graduate, create an even more dire picture. Unfortunately, they do not know that software is a tool and that a good design is required as well as being able to use that software correctly. Good design also comes with experience. When I told an employer about the right and quality project and what was not, these ears heard the phrase "eo engineer is signing the gold". However, we are a nation that goes to at least two different doctors for our health. In a meeting, when we asked for a revision fee for a project of up to 100 thousand square meters, I saw the employer saying, "How many kg do they come in" by showing the projects in blueprint bags. Even if it's a joke, the underlying intention is clear. However, in large-scale projects, there is a quality-control system. But most of the building stock consists of small projects with insufficient quality-control. Let me end my article with the hope that engineers who produce correct and principled static projects will increase. Respects.
