The earthquake code describes in detail and clearly how the Mdev and Mo calculations used in the shear overturning moment calculation should be made. I have brought together all of the articles cited here and there. When the overturning moment is calculated by grouping the bulkheads as stipulated in the regulation, there can be very important differences compared to the calculation without grouping. Depending on the normal force capacities of the arms of grouped walls and the distance c between the two arms, very large overturning moments can occur at the bottom of the wall. See. 4.5.4.3 Equivalent. (4.13) Requests the use of the moment found by grouping the wall overturning moment in clause (d) of 4.5.3.7 article.
